Standing stone in Ardgroom Outward

Standing stone

What is recorded here

A half-metre stone leans north beside a boulder burial on Tooreennamna Mountain, while a burnt mound waits thirty metres away. It is not a grand monument, but a small kitchen of memory: someone stood there, heated water, marked death and left the mountain with a shape it could remember.
In rough hill pasture, on the lower N-facing slopes of Tooreennamna Mountain. This standing stone (0.55m x 0.35m; H 0.95m) is roughly rectangular in plan and section and is orientated ENE-WSW. The stone leans slightly to the N. There is a boulder burial (CO102-040002-) 0.5m to the N and a burnt mound (CO102-040004-) c. 30m to the SE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
