Staffa, Fingal's Cave

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Staffa, Fingal's Cave as Cave (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Fingal's Cave on the island of Staffa is a basalt sea cave formed by ancient volcanic activity, with its hexagonal columnar jointing typical of lava cooling. It is named after Fingal, a legendary hero of Gaelic folklore, and was famously visited by the poet Lord Byron and the composer Felix Mendelssohn.
