St. Sorneys Bed

Circa 15m to the S of the doorway of the church (GA103-118001-) at the monastic complex at Drumacoo. Described by Fahey (1893, 33) as resembling 'one of those stone cells in which many of our early Saints loved to do penance. It measures about 6 feet [1.83m] in length by 4 [1.22m] in width externally’. Its height could not be determined ‘owing to the quantity of rubbish and earth which have accumulated around it’. Its stone roof was still ‘near perfect'. When visited in 1982 the monument was completely ivy-covered and consisted of a rectangular mass of stone (L 2.6m; Wth 2m; H 1.7m) aligned N-S.
