St Medana's Well is associated with St Medana, a 7th-century Irish saint and sister of St Columba, who was venerated in Scotland for her piety and healing miracles. The well was traditionally visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and general healing, with pilgrims often leaving offerings or undertaking rituals at the site.
