St. Joseph's Cemetery

St. Joseph's Cemetery in Cork began in 1830 when Father Mathew leased land from the Botanical Gardens to give the poor a dignified burial place. The ground holds thousands of unmarked Famine victims, twenty-eight war dead, and Mathew himself, testifying that compassion once cut through pride and hierarchy. It is not a monument to greatness but a witness to mercy made visible in soil.
