St Glassen's Well is associated with Saint Glassen, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to the spread of Christianity in parts of Scotland and northern England. The well was traditionally visited for its healing properties, particularly for eye ailments, and may have been the site of early Christian pilgrimage and ritual.
