St Dogmaels Abbey was founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks from Whitland Abbey, dedicated to St Dogmael, a 12th-century Welsh saint. The abbey played a significant role in the religious and economic life of the region and is one of the best-preserved Cistercian monastic sites in Wales.
