St. Bridgets Well

Holy well

What is recorded here

Toberreendoney, also called Lady's Well and St Bridget's Well, was marked on the 1840 map in County Limerick. Three holy wells stood there, though not much frequented by the 1950s; two still exist, one has been closed up, and a vague tradition claims a fourth whose name is forgotten. Devotions have long since ceased, leaving the water to keep its own quiet company.

St. Bridget's Well is associated with the Gaelic saint Brigid of Kildare, a widely venerated figure linked to fertility, healing, and protection. Traditionally, holy wells dedicated to St. Bridget were visited for blessings, especially by women seeking fertility or protection for their homes and livestock.
