St Aethan's Well is associated with St Aethan, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to the spread of Christianity in Pictish Scotland. The well is traditionally believed to have healing properties, particularly for eye ailments, and may have been a site of pilgrimage and early Christian worship.
