Sròn nan Caorach is a headland composed primarily of basaltic rock, formed during volcanic activity in the Mesozoic Era, approximately 60 to 100 million years ago. Its notable columnar jointing and coastal erosion features make it a distinctive example of igneous landforms in the Na h-Eileanan Siar archipelago.
