What is recorded here

A painted wooden carving, depicting the Battle of Sole Bay. Shows two wooden galleons battling at sea. The southwold town seal appears above the carving.
The Battle of Sole Bay was fought between the English and a combined French and Spanish fleet in June 1672 during the Second Anglo-Dutch War. The English suffered a defeat, which highlighted the vulnerability of their navy and contributed to political pressure that led to the appointment of Lord Dartmouth as Lord High Admiral.
