South Cliff is a sea cliff composed primarily of Chalk Group rocks, dating to the Late Cretaceous period, around 66 to 100 million years old. It formed through the accumulation of marine sediments in a shallow tropical sea and is notable for its exposure of Cretaceous stratigraphy, common along the southeastern coasts of England.
