What is recorded here

Cloughoughter Castle stands as a ruined circular fortress on a small island in Lough Oughter, built by the de Lacy family around 1220 before the O'Reilly clan seized it in 1233. The O'Reillys held the stone walls through centuries of local conflict, including the brutal imprisonment of Philip O'Reilly in the 1360s with only oats and water. After the Plantation of Ulster, Captain Hugh Culme received the site until Philip O'Reilly reclaimed it during the 1641 rebellion. Cromwellian artillery finally destroyed the castle in 1653, leaving behind a drowned shadow of medieval power.
Small Island is recorded as a island in County Cavan. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
