Slab-lined burial in Proleek is one of two stone cists inside a large enclosure, holding a complete skull while its partner kept scattered bone fragments. The clear chamber may have honoured a remembered person, but the broken chamber suggests death came suddenly or the body arrived already damaged. Both chambers still belong to the same place, completing each other across the gap between identity and loss.
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
