Explorer Tom Sunnybank Park in Aberdeen was once an outdoor sports centre facing redevelopment, until neighbours decided the place had a better future with room for everyone. Today paths lead past allotments, play space and wildlife corners, and the park wears its community spirit rather more proudly than any polished sign could manage. The Friends of Sunnybank Park formed in 2010 to save and care for the site. Their work helped turn former sports ground into a park shared by Sunnybank, Froghall, Powis and Old Aberdeen. There are fruit trees, allotments, exercise equipment, football space and a legal graffiti wall. I would call it a small kingdom, but its residents prefer sharing to coronations. This is a place for a walk, play, exercise or simply seeing how a local group can change a patch of city land. Volunteers maintain the core area and welcome interest in the park's care. Use the paths, respect growing plots and let the artwork wall remain the one place where paint belongs. The park is public and open access, though it is not advertised as fully accessible throughout. Find it off Sunnybank Road in Aberdeen. The community listing points to local paths and buses, while the Friends' page carries current activities. Come with no grand itinerary: a slow circuit is enough to find the different corners. Then remember who kept this green space here when it might have disappeared under buildings.
