Kilcummin Church, the big church of Cuimín, has vanished entirely from modern maps despite once anchoring a detached parish parcel in County Kerry. Tomb stones surfaced during house construction in the 1840s, proving the burial ground existed beneath what became ordinary living space. Old people remembered ruins where fields now grow, suggesting the community simply stopped visiting rather than destroying the sacred site. The church did not burn or collapse dramatically; it faded from human attention until soil and cultivation erased its final traces.

Kilcummin (Cill Chuimín Mhór/ the big church of Cuimín) Church: There is no trace of the church and burial ground marked in the village of Kilcummin on the OS maps. Though now located in a detached part of Killiney parish, the site may formerly have been included in 'that parcel of Kyllchomyyn (parish) in the diocese of Ardfert' which was united to the parish churches of Killiney and Kilshannig (Cal Pap Reg, 13, 336). In the 1840's a portion of the site was cultivated and, during the construction of houses on the remainder, tomb stones were uncovered (OSNB Killiney, 40). Curran (1907-33) recorded that 'the old people remember the ruins of a church in this spot. The site is now cultivated' (SMR File). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
