What is recorded here

Graveyard field in County Cork: pasture now, but the 1842 map marked a circular burial site there. The field name kept the dead alive long after the ground swallowed every trace. People still walk past that forgotten circle, uncertain whether they are leaving a farm field or entering a chamber where identity stopped resisting time.
In pasture. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular area named 'Site of Grave Yard'. No visible surface trace. Field still known as the 'graveyard field'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
