Man-made underground passage in Kilclogh (muskerry East By.)

On hillside. Discovered in 1976 during ploughing, investigated by J.P. McCarthy (1977, 266-7). Two long stone-built chambers at right angles to each other and joined by earth-cut creepway. Chamber 1: (L 7.2m; Wth 1.2m; H 1.5m; long axis NW-SE). Earth-cut cell (L 0.8m; Wth 0.8m; H 0.8m) entered by creepway at SE end of chamber 1; McCarthy suggests this was the original enterence. Towards NW end of NE wall, creepway (L 1.5m; Wth 0.65m; H 0.45m) to chamber 2: (7.7m; Wth 1.3m; max. H 2m; long axis NE-SW) which has clay-cut SW end. Floor slopes downwards towards NE end. Earth-cut cell (L 0.8m; Wth 0.8m; H 0.8m) entered by creepway at SE end of gallery 1 which McCarthy suggests is the original entrance. Man-made underground passage now closed up.
