What is recorded here

Feddaun Castle vanished so completely that a modern bungalow now occupies its exact footprint, hiding the castle walls beneath domestic floors and garden soil. The building may have stood for centuries before disappearing, yet no ruin remains to mark the change. People still live above the forgotten bones of the castle, unaware that the ground under their feet once belonged to another kind of house.
Not visible at ground level. Modern bungalow located on site of castle. Mentioned in the nineteenth century OS Leters (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 76; Loeber 1988, vol. 5, 42). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
