Church

What is recorded here

Site of Church is a church in Donaghmore, County Tipperary, Ireland. Donaghmore is a rural townland in County Tipperary. It contains one recorded church and one lost church. The second church left a circular grave marker.
Immediately SE of Donaghmore church (TS077-027001-) there was a second church. The OS Letters of 1840 relate that the church was 'destroyed years ago by Parson Carey, who used its stones to build pig styes!' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 54). Within the graveyard, SE of the upstanding church, there is a circular depression (diam. 6m N-S; 5.8m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.3m crest, 3.2m base; int. H 0.63m; ext. H 0.56m). The bank is not apparent in the W quadrant. This may relate to the former church. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
