Killerrig castle vanished into a rectangular patch of trees in County Carlow, leaving behind only a line of boulders caught in a field drain. Whether it stood as a lordly seat or a military stronghold, men built walls there, lived inside them, and abandoned them to rot. The castle is gone, but its shadow remains buried under grass and memory.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Shown on Down Survey (1655-6) map. Marked 'Site of Castle' on 1837 'OS 6-inch' map. Approximately rectangular area (c. 30m x c. 30m) planted with trees. Foundation course (min. L 4m) of boulders exposed in field drain at SE.
