Site of Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Castlesize once held a castle, but even memory has abandoned it. The house still stands beside the River Liffey in County Kildare, yet no wall, ditch or stone marks the place where the castle belonged. What remains is a gap in the land, clean and sudden, as if the castle never agreed to be seen.
According to the OSL (Herity 2002, 46 (141)) '… it is said, there was formerly a Castle, of which, a vestige does not remain now'. On the landscaped grounds of Castlesize house, c. 150m E of the River Liffey. There was no trace of the castle visible in 1985 (SMR file). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
