Black Castle stood on a slight rise at the northern end of a gently sloping meadow until it was completely rased about 1790. It is gone now, leaving only the shape of the land and the memory of a building that watched the sky in every direction.

Situated on a slight rise at the northern end of a gently sloping meadow with good views in all directions. According to the OS Letters the 'castle was completely rased about the year 1790' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 119). No visible remains at ground level.
