Site of Ballinhalla Castle — Report the wrong picture

Ballinhalla Castle has vanished completely, leaving only a moated hollow on flat Tipperary ground where maps still claim a castle stands. The site appeared on early surveys, resisted a 1958 inspection behind dense scrub, and was later levelled until even its boundary disappeared. What remained was not stone but memory: a local name preserving a building no longer visible to human eyes.

On flat ground in gently undulating terrain. There is no visible trace of 'Ballinhalla Castle' above ground. It is indicated as 'site of' castle on 1st (1840) ed. and subsequent 2nd (1907) ed. The former castle is surrounded by a moated site (TS087-029001-). The monument was inspected in 1958 (OPW Correspondence), however, the interior was heavily overgrown with scrub and was not examined.
