Siege of Drogheda

Drogheda fell on 11 September 1649 after Oliver Cromwell’s troops stormed the town and executed much of the garrison, along with hundreds of civilians. The port had resisted because Sir Arthur Aston refused to surrender, but that choice turned a military siege into a massacre still remembered as atrocity.
