What is recorded here

The shrine was known as the Caimmin and was probably a Crosier. It was taken by O'More in 1069. (JRSAI, 1923, 76). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007
The Shrine in Timahoe, known as the Caimmin, was likely built by a monastic community associated with the Crosier order, probably in the early medieval period. Its significance lies in its historical mention in local annals and its possible religious or pilgrimage role, though specific dedications or architectural style are not recorded.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
