Shipload Bay features a sea cliff composed primarily of Devonian slate, formed around 380 million years ago through the metamorphism of sedimentary rock under heat and pressure. The cliffs are notable for their resistant rock layers and the clear exposure of geological structures, making them of interest to local geologists and walkers.
