Sheila Humphreys

Birthplace

What is recorded here

Sheila Humphreys was born in County Limerick in 1899 and later became a leading voice for Irish republicanism through Cumann na mBan. Her family home in Dublin became an IRA safe house where the Dail cabinet met and where Ernie O'Malley was wounded during a brutal raid in 1922. Sheila resisted the soldiers that night, an act she owned while directing praise toward O'Malley's bravery. She lived until 1994, carrying the noise of that room into old age.
