Settlement deserted

Settlement deserted, medieval

What is recorded here

Ballyteighduffe and its neighbour villages belonged to the Earle of Kildare before a 1571 Elizabethan grant transferred them to Owen mac Hugh O'Dempsie. That sudden change may have emptied the settlements, yet no ruin or field boundary has survived to mark where they stood. They vanished because power redirected them, not because people stopped living there.
Unlocated village within OS 6-inch map number 5 mentioned in 1571 Elizabethan land grant to Owen mac Hugh O'Dempsie although the Earle of Kildare does lay claim tot he villages of 'Ballycarroll, Ballyteighduffe, Ballyodin alias Boydonstowne, Dirryfunchin alias Dirryfunchior, Ballyorlade (Abhalghort) alias Orchardston (Ullard), Ballinurcher, Clomany and Kilmorhcil , as parcell of the said Earl's Manor of Leigh' (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 2, p. 52). Townland of Ballyteigueduff is located on OS 6-inch map number 09. Wrong six inch sheet designation should be on OS number 09. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
