Fire consumed Aghaboe on 13th May 1346 when Dermot MacGilpatrick struck the town west of the abbey. Foundations still lie buried beneath Pigeon Park of Currawn, waiting beneath grass and forgetfulness. What remained of human life there vanished into lairs, roads or rivalry, leaving only earthworks to mark the shape of its loss.

The town of Aghaboe was burned by Dermot MacGilpatrick on the 13th May 1346. (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 73, 74). Earthworks between Abbey (LA022-019001-) and motte (LA022-019007-) may be remains of town of Aghaboe. According to Carrigan the town principally lay to the west of the abbey (LA022-019001-) in the area known as Pigeon Park of Currawn, where according to Carrigan 'extensive foundations still remain beneath the surface' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 47).
