Settlement cluster in Kilkeeran (kilmaine By., Kilmainebeg Par.)

Settlement cluster

What is recorded here

Kilkeeran is a forgotten settlement cluster in County Mayo where several lives intersected before the landscape swallowed their names. It is not a grand castle or a famous battlefield, but a small human knot: rooms, roads, fields and relationships that shaped the wider area. Judging from its name and form, people lived there repeatedly, raised children, argued, traded and buried their dead. The cluster may have changed ownership several times, yet continuity is more likely than a single dramatic founding event.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
