Seán McGinley was born in Pettigo, County Donegal, on 1 March 1956. He grew up nearby in Ballyshannon after his father worked as a customs officer in Pettigo. The small border town gave him a West of Ireland voice before he joined the Druid Theatre Company and carried that voice into dozens of films.
