Seamus Cunningham was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland, on 7 July 1942, a small Atlantic town where the sea still touches the life of everyone who leaves it. He went north to become priest, then bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, carrying that Mayo birth into English churches, classrooms and cathedrals. Castlebar gave him life; the north gave him a lifetime of service.
