Screen Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Located at the W edge of a slight N-S ridge. The site of the parish church of Screen (WX033-008001-) is within a raised rectangular graveyard (dims. 39m E-W; 27m N-S). The possible font (WX033-008003-) is in the NE part of the graveyard. A geophysical survey (16R185) conducted by Earthsound Archaeological Geophysics in the field to the W (dims c. 60m E-W; c. 60m NW-SE) tentatively identified two possible ditches as well as a number of pits. Archaeological testing (16E0616) uncovered a number of archaeological features consistently across the area consisting mostly of pits, none of which were excavated but the pottery and other material recovered, including a late fifteenth century Geraldine groat suggests a high medieval date.
