SITE OF SCOTLAND YARD FIRST HEADQUARTERS OF THE METROPOLITAN POLICE 1829–1890
Scotland Yard was the first headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, established in 1829 by Sir Robert Peel, and served as a central symbol of British policing until 1890. It is important as the birthplace of modern police forces and the origin of the term "Scotland Yard."
