Scalloway Castle

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Scalloway Castle as Whetstone (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Scalloway Castle, located in Shetland, Scotland, was built in the late 16th century by Robert Stewart, Earl of Orkney, as a strategic stronghold to assert control over the region following the Reformation. It is important as a symbol of Scottish influence in the Northern Isles and remains a well-preserved example of late medieval military architecture.
