Scalby Ness is a headland composed primarily of Middle Jurassic limestone, formed around 165 million years ago through the accumulation of marine sediments. It is notable for its coastal exposure of the Whitby Mudstone Formation and its role as a prominent geographical feature in the North Yorkshire coastline.
