Saint Craunacht's Roman Catholic Church

Freestanding monument, erected c. 1950, comprising stepped limestone base, square-profile rusticated plinth with carved cornice, marble plaques, and circular panels having copper panel with three-quarter posed portrait in relief and carved limestone decoration in relief. Square-profile carved limestone shaft above with marble colonnettes to corners having carved limestone bands and pinnacles, surmounted by carved limestone Celtic cross with Celtic interlace patterns and bosses. Monument surrounded by decorative cast-iron railings set on dressed limestone plinth.

This monument was erected to the memory of Tom Barry, indicated by the well-executed plaque and copper portrait in relief. It occupies a prominent site within the grounds of Saint Craunacht's church, on the side of the main Mallow to Mitchelstown road. The monument is well crafted and designed. It offers variety of colour, texture and materials to the site, as well as decorative elements, such as the boundary railings, stone-crafted details and marble colonnettes.
