Rubha Chàrn nan Cearc is a basaltic sea cliff or headland formed during the Paleogene period, approximately 60 to 55 million years ago, as a result of volcanic activity associated with the opening of the North Atlantic. It is notable for its resistant basalt rock formations, which have withstood coastal erosion, and may represent part of a larger igneous complex in the region.
