What is recorded here

The Royal Signals Museum at Blandford Camp follows British Army communication from flags and telegraphy through radio, code work, satellites and modern digital systems.

What this place is

This is the national museum of the Royal Corps of Signals. It uses equipment, vehicles, documents and personal accounts to explain how messages moved under the pressure of military operations.

People and events

The corps formed in 1920 from earlier army signalling services, but the museum follows the story back to visual signals and Crimean War telegraphy. Serving and former signallers built its collection.

How it was used

Training examples and operational equipment show how messages were sent, protected and repaired. Displays cover dispatch riders, radio operators, code work and communication across land and air.

What survives

Historic wireless sets, switchboards, cipher machines, uniforms, medals, motorcycles and armoured command vehicles remain at Blandford, the corps' training home since the late twentieth century.

Why it mattered

Communication often decides whether separated people can act together, yet its equipment sits behind the better-known story of weapons. This museum makes that hidden work visible.
