Rossmore Castle in County Monaghan stands as a ruined mansion demolished in 1975, leaving behind five grassy terraces and limestone steps that descend toward Castle Lough. Built in 1827 and extended in 1858, the estate retained gates, a mausoleum and a walled garden long after the house fell silent. The octagonal pedestals on the lowest terrace may have displayed sculpture, inviting wonder about the beautiful objects once arranged for visitors to admire.
