Rock art in Letter West, County Kerry, Ireland, holds a picked line stretching across a waterlogged boulder in wet pasture. The mark fades into tiny dots at one end and disappears beneath the surface at the other, suggesting a boundary between the visible world and the hidden depths. A person may have struck that line during a storm or a quiet dawn, recording the exact moment water rose to touch the stone. The bog keeps the rest of the story, preserving the shape of human attention while taking back the facts.

A picked line, the visible portion of which is 0.54m long, extends NE/SW across the E portion of a a low lying outcrop or earthfast boulder in wet boggy pasture, the rock being waterlogged at SW. Roughly triangular in plan, its sides measure c. 1m in length. The line fades to single pickmarks (diam. 3–10mm) towards NE until it is no longer traceable where it meets a crack in the rock’s upper surface. At the SW end of the line, it is widest where it meets the water and is no longer traceable beneath the water’s surface. Apart from the picked line, there is a series of shallow grooves which may be naturally formed on the rock’s surface. In aerial view, the panel appears to be within a possible circular feature having a max. diam. of 22m. No such feature is recognizable at ground level.
