Field boundary in Letter West

This site is located on the S side of the tributary that joins Coomnacronia Lake with the Behy river. Much outcropping and scree dominate the immediate landscape, though a cover of blanket peat extends over most of the gentle mountain slope. Turf-cutting has revealed a system of walls in an area measuring approximately 340m x 230m. These generally occur .7m to 1m below the level of the bog, and nowhere has the peat been cut to the base of the walls. The walls average 30m long and are generally curvilinear. They average .6m wide and are composed mostly of upright boulders. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
