What is recorded here
Conchennane, where the land folds into itself like a worn palm, the mountain does not loom so much as lean in. You walk its skin rather than admire it from a distance. Shadowed trenches, white stone, sudden depth and distant edge combine into a place that feels alive because it is. Conchennane remembers the body before it remembers the mind.
In mountain heath and cutaway bog (167m OD), on a gentle NE-facing slope, c. 5.5m to E of rock art site (KE071-NEW81). Good views of Behy river valley to NE with Seefin and Droum Mountains in background. A slightly rough and fractured, sandstone rock outcrop (dims. 1.9m N-S; 0.7m E-W; H 0.25m at NE) which is irregular in plan. It has a subrectangular-shaped decorated surface (dims. 0.2m N-S; 0.5m E-W) with an E and a W-facing aspect. The decorative elements consist of a distinct cup-and-one-ring motif (total dims. 18cm N-S; c. 19.5cm E-W) having a large, shallow cupmark (diam. 8cm; D 5mm) and ring (Wth 2-2.5cm; D 2-3mm) at E edge of upper stone surface. A cluster of pickmarks (dims. 7cm N-S; 6cm E-W); D 2mm) is situated at W edge of decorated surface. Other potential pickmarks are in the vicinity of the two motifs. Naturally formed solution marks adjacent to N of decorated surface. Area of sphagnum moss around base of stone at W and residual sod of turf to E. A pair of conjoined hut sites are c. 20m to SSE.
