What is recorded here
Fourteen small crosses, one circled cross and four cupmarks cling to a flat stone in a boggy kink of the Donegal boundary. The marks are tiny, under twenty-five centimetres across, yet they repeat like a hurried prayer or a game played in rain. Whatever hand made them worked quickly, perhaps marking a place, warning a traveller or answering a vow. The bog has kept the stone exposed long enough for the crosses to remain visible, waiting for someone to read their urgency.
An exposed area of natural rock 2.5m × 1.55m with 14 crosses, 1 cross in a circle and 4 cupmarks inscribed (M. R. Colhoun). All the crosses are less than .25m in length and breadth. It is located in a kink of a field boundary in boggy terrain.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.

Likely dating to the early medieval period, the Rock art in Clehagh features crosses and cupmarks that may reflect a blend of pre-Christian and Christian symbolism. The crosses, possibly associated with early Christian activity, and the cupmarks, which are commonly found in earlier prehistoric contexts, suggest a site of spiritual or ritual significance over time.
