Rock art in Carrowreagh OR Craignacally

Rock art

What is recorded here

Carrowreagh holds two tiny cup marks on a rock buried inside a field wall in County Donegal. The holes measure seven and eight centimetres across and sit forty-six centimetres apart, small enough to cover with one palm. They may have marked a boundary, recorded a gift or simply tested the patience of someone striking stone before the wall existed. The surrounding countryside has changed little, but the hands that made those cups have vanished.
Natural rock outcrop incorporated into S face of field wall which is located 2m away and with two shallow cup marks on the exposed face that are 0.46m apart and measure 0.08m and 0.07m in diameter. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: : 30 May 2010
