Rock art in Carrowreagh OR Craignacally

Rock art

What is recorded here

Carrowreagh and Craignacally hold a rock with two large cupmarks and seven midget cups, marking human presence in County Donegal before written history. The small cups suggest careful carving, perhaps for prayer, play or identity, while the larger ones anchor the work in ritual or warning. People may have gathered there to read the stones, change them or remember what the land had already taught them.
Described by Van Hoek as 'Just W of DON 10 (DG003-007----) is a rock with two cupmarks and also some seven midget cups' (Van Hoek 1988, 46). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: 30 May 2010
