Rock art in Carrowreagh OR Craignacally

Rock art

What is recorded here

Carrowreagh holds at least twelve shallow cups on a large outcrop, buried beside a wall and across a slight valley. Someone struck that stone repeatedly, perhaps marking a boundary, counting livestock or leaving a prayer for rain. The cups remain shallow because rain and foot traffic have softened them, yet they still protrude through grass and moss.
Described by Van Hoek as 'Some 50m SE of DON 3 (DG003-012-----), across this slight valley and just N of a wall, is a large outcrop with at least 12 shallow cups in various places' (Van Hoek 1988, 45). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: : 30 May 2010
