Road

Road, unclassified togher

What is recorded here

Situated on flat bog with good views in all directions. A togher site identified by a FÁS Scheme, Damer House, Roscrea and marked on their field map. No description of site was provided and the site could not be located. The river running roughly N-S through the bog appears to have been deepened to form a drain. The cut face runs c. NW-SE. Both the cut-over area and the cut face have gone out of use and have been recolonised by scrub woodland close to the road and heather and shrub further into the bog. An area of high bog survives and the feature may well have survived within this. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
