What is recorded here
The OS Letters (1839, 135) refer to ‘an old road which they [the local people] call Bothar Chiarain (Boher Kieran) i.e., Kieran’s Road, leading out from the town to the south. I traced this old road through cornfields, meadows and more than four miles from Ferta, and they tell me here that it is known all the way to Callan, over hills and valley. It would be easy to put this ancient road on the Plan, if deemed worth doing so’. The precise location of this road is unknown.
